Playwriting Australia announces the American playwrights invited to the National Play Festival 2013
best computer softwareWe're thrilled to announce the two American playwrights who will be featured at the National Play Festival 2013 as part of an Australian/American Exchange.
In addition to seven Australian playwrights, the Play Festival will present The United States of Playwriting showcasing hot new plays by two electrifying American playwrights – Steve Yockey’s Pluto and Carson Kreitzer’s Lasso of Truth – through an exchange with the National New Play Network in the US.
The American playwrights will travel to Perth for the event as well as an additional reading and forum in Sydney, Finding the Words, in partnership with the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Both events are presented with the support of the US Embassy in Australia.
These are bold, engrossing and imaginative new works from America. We are delighted to host the NNPN’s playwrights in Perth and Sydney and to bring together dynamic artists as we continue to explore the most exciting global playwriting cultures. Through our exchange, two Australian playwrights, Declan Greene and Vanessa Bates, attended readings of their work at the NNPN’s National Showcase of New Plays in Washington in November 2012 following the NNPN’s Executive Director Jason Loewith attendance at the National Play Festival 2012 in Melbourne.
“I was so impressed by the talent and adventurous spirit at last year's National Play Festival. Since then, I've been eager to introduce our Australian colleagues to the playwrights we've been championing on our side of the globe. I know Carson and Steve – two of our country's freshest voices – are going to inspire and engage theatermakers Down Under, just as they've done here.”
Jason Loewith, Executive Director of the National New Play Network
