National Play Festival 2018
21 – 24 March
Darlinghurst Theatre Company, at the Eternity Playhouse, Sydney

Each year at the National Play Festival Playwriting Australia invites theatre professionals to take part in an industry-only program. This is a unique occasion to be involved in a national conversation about the opportunities and challenges facing the new writing sector, exchange ideas and network with other theatre artists, including writers, artistic directors, producers, literary managers and industry peers.

We are inviting playwrights and independent theatre artists to be part of the Industry Program. Selected artists will get access to the subsidised rate of $120 to attend the industry program, along with all performances and festival events at the 2018 National Play Festival.

We strongly welcome and encourage applications from playwrights of all cultural backgrounds, identities, abilities, genders and geographic locations in Australia. We are committed to supporting an Australian theatre environment that reflects our contemporary society.

Please note that the industry registration is for attendance at the Play Festival only, and doesn’t include accommodation or per diems. Additional support including travel funding for interstate artists can be sought from state and territory funding bodies or from the Erin Thomas Playwright Fund for artists based outside of Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. We have a limited amount of bursaries for WA artists, supported by the state government.

If you would like to attend the Playwrights Program masterclasses, you will need to register separately for each event. The full program of events will be announced in February, in the meantime stay tuned for updates by signing up to our e-news or following us on Facebook and Twitter. While attendance at the Industry Program includes a Public Festival Pass, you do not need to register for the industry program in order to attend the National Play Festival.
