Barbara Hostalek in her own words
Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and Playwriting Australia (PWA) have listened to what it is I’ve needed to develop Cracked and Banned. Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company submitted an Expression of Interest to PWA for inclusion in their Ignition Program in 2017. Cracked will be my first play to have a professional main stage production with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company as part of the 2019 Season. The opportunity of creative development on many levels has been invaluable in nurturing my abilities and knowledge, as I am not of a theatre background. I’ve received intensive creative development opportunities in the form of access to actors for rehearsed and edited readings, dramaturgy, access to a creative and culturally safe space, guidance in developing a play for stage, time to dream, space to develop trust and friendships with mentors and company specific support networks. Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company and PWA resources have allowed me ready access to industry professionals with vast theatre experience (local, national and internationally), passion, knowledge, skills and abilities all of whom have been unique and generous in supporting the development of my work, and skills as a playwright and none of which I would have had access to if I didn’t have the support of PWA and Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company. Big ripper thank you’s for believing in me, each other and most importantly the work.
Barbara premiered her play Banned in February 2018, with a return season in July 2018.
You will be able to see Cracked 7-18 May at Subiaco Arts Centre, for more details click here
