The program aims to strengthen and enhance the craft of WA’s most exceptional playwriting talent. Writers with at least two professional or independent production credits are invited to participate in five weekend workshops with renowned Australian playwrights. Each intensive workshop will include a take-home writing exercise to be completed after the workshop, and you will receive feedback from the facilitating playwrights.
Workshop 1: Andrew Bovell, Saturday 30th of September 10am-5pm
Workshop 2: Reg Cribb, Saturday 14th of October and Sunday 15th of October, 10am-5pm
Workshop 3: Raimondo Cortese, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of October 10am- 5pm
Workshop 4: Kate Mulvany, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of November, 10am-5pm
Workshop 5: Jane Bodie, Saturday 9th and 10th of December, 10am-5pm
Participants who attend all five workshops and complete all tasks associated with the group will be invited to Sydney in January for four days of Masterclasses and attendance at Sydney Festival performances in the evenings. Playwriting Australia will cover your airfares and per diems and playwrights are to arrange their own accommodation for the time in Sydney.
Places in this program are extremely limited. To express your interest in this program, please register here. Playwrights are asked to submit an example of their writing which will be assessed by a panel of peers and Playwriting Australia’s artistic staff. Playwrights are also asked to outline why they’d like to participate in the program; what they consider their strengths and areas for development as a playwright, and how this program may help them.
We strongly encourage expressions of interest from playwrights of all cultural backgrounds, identities, abilities, genders and geographic locations in Australia. We are committed to supporting an Australian theatre environment that reflects our contemporary society.
