Playwriting Australia

National Play Festival

promoting the best new Australian writing

This showcase event is a market for new work, bringing peers, producers and presenters together to view new plays in order to secure full professional productions.

Writers work with leading directors, dramaturgs and actors to produce a performance-ready draft of a new work for presentation to an audience of industry peers and producers.

The Festival takes place annually and also features:

a public programme of forums, workshops and discussion to foster debate and invite participation by local artists, and

an industry programme exploring national networks and new directions in contemporary script development.

Submissions for the Festival are invited annually towards the end of the year from any interested writer and are assessed by a panel of experienced readers. There are no application or participation fees. Theatre companies are invited to propose projects for participation.
