Programs

We select six to eight scripts each year for a two-week intensive script development process, putting the playwright in a room with a director, dramaturg and cast to work on the text without the pressure of performance.

PWA Lab /

A new workshop opportunity encouraging artists to examine the possibilities of including playwrights in innovative processes, aiming to bring the unique skills of a writer to an ever-widening theatre-making practice.

National Play Festival /

Each year we produce a four-day public event in a different city in Australia to celebrate new plays through staged readings of Australian scripts, industry forums and more.

Creatives Academy /

Providing support for those working with new writing, filling a skills gap found in both training and professional environments through a series of programs for creatives, including the Dramaturgy Internships and a new Directors Studio.

National Travel Grants /

State Exchange travel funding made available for artists to collaborate on a new work across states, including the new Erin Thomas Playwrights Fund for emerging writers from regional areas.

Diversity /

Finding and nurturing emerging voices that represent Australia’s cultural diversity through workshops, mentoring and professional development, including the Lotus Playwriting Project for artists from Asian-Australian backgrounds.

The Chain Play /

Performed for one night only, The Chain Play is one of the most ambitious projects we’ve ever created to support our vital work.
