For the second year, Playwriting Australia is partnering with the Royal Exchange in Manchester, to host a live streamed Masterclass, with Patricia Cornelius, titled “Lovely, Lovely, sometimes Ugly Dialogue.” 

Patricia is a founding member of Melbourne Workers Theatre. She is a playwright, screenwriter and novelist. The House of Bernarda Alba, an adaptation of Lorca’s play, was produced last June at the Melbourne Theatre Company.  In the Club, premiered last year at the Adelaide Arts Festival. Patricia has written over thirty-five plays and they include: Big HeartSHIT, Do Not Go GentleThe CallLove, FeverBoy Overboard, Slut and Who’s Afraid of the Working Class? (with Andrew Bovell, Christos Tsiolkas, Melissa Reeves and Irine Vela). Her prizes for stage work include the 2011 Victorian and NSW Premiers’ Literary Awards, the Patrick White Playwright’s Award, the Richard Wherrett Prize, the Wal Cherry Award and numerous AWGIES for stage, community theatre, theatre for young people. She won the prestigious Australian Writers Foundation Playwriting Award in 2015 as well as the Patrick White Fellowship (2012), and a Fellowship from the Australia Council’s Theatre Board. Patricia has won the AWGIE Major Award three times. She has recently been awarded the 2018 Mona Brand Playwrighting Award,

The masterclass will take place on the 25th of March. All applicants must be; based in Melbourne and available from 6pm-8.30pm EST on that day. This process will involve sharing your work (created during the masterclass, not previously) with those in the room, and those watching the live stream. Playwright Australia are calling for emerging playwrights, who would like to be participants in this streamed masterclass. It is a remarkable, and rare opportunity to improve your writing craft, with one of the Australian greats. Submissions require a brief description of your playwriting experience, and will take about 10 minutes to complete. They will close on the 11th of March 2019 at 11.59PM, EST.
