directors studio 2014
Playwriting Australia presents the inaugural Directors Studio, a two-day workshop for artists exploring the craft of directing new writing.
Because exceptional new plays aren’t made by writers in isolation, Playwriting Australia is committed to nurturing artists who work alongside playwrights, filling a skills gap found in both training and professional environments. The Directors Studio is a brand new skills development opportunity for theatre directors with a passion for new Australian plays and a proven commitment to presenting new writing for the stage.
Curated by our artistic team and led by many of Australia’s most celebrated theatre makers, the Directors Studio program will investigate the journey of a new play, the writer’s process and how best to serve it in development and production. Participants will gain tools for creative development, vocabulary for production and techniques for working with text to implement and enhance a writer’s vision.
Monday 15 December and Tuesday 16 December 2014
ATYP Studio, Sydney, Pier 4/5 Hickson Road Walsh Bay 2000
Attendance is FREE for selected participants. Lunch and refreshments will be provided daily.
Applications are open to directors and theatre makers at all levels of their career and from a diverse range of cultural and artistic backgrounds. The course is designed for those in the early years of their directing careers, but could also suit experienced theatre directors wishing to enhance their new writing practise.
Up to 12 Sydney-based artists will be selected to attend the studio in 2014. Details of guests speakers and full studio program will be distributed to selected participants only.
Note that the inaugural Directors Studio is a pilot event for Sydney-based artists only. From 2015, the Directors Studio will be open to artists nationally.
