The next National Script Workshop for Jane Montgomery-Griffiths and Declan Greene’s award-winning scripts will take place in Sydney, from Monday 30 July to Friday 11 August.The winning scripts in development this year are Declan Greene’s, winner of the administered by The Trust Company, and A Little Piece For Her Sister by Jane Montgomery-Griffiths, one of the winners of for 2011.
As part of the awards, both playwrights receive a two-week creative development workshop with a high calibre creative team and cast through Playwriting Australia’s National Script Workshops programme in 2012. These partnerships mean that – in addition to the cash prizes – winning playwrights have access to a significant opportunity to progress their play towards a production.
A Little Piece For Her Sister re-examines the stories of Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra. Jane weaves domesticity and ordinariness with mythological pain and responsibility to thrilling effect. It is a perceptive, precise, and beautifully structured piece.
On Declan Greene’s latest play, PlayWriting Australia’s Artistic Director Chris Mead says: “It’s thrilling to read a play as effortlessly bold, as contemporary and as moving as Declan Greene’s new work. Playwriting Australia’s partnership with these two Awards has already supported fantastic new works by playwrights such as Tom Holloway, Mary Rachel Brown and Glenn Shea.
