RE-GEN Project - Young and Emerging Artists
introducing the next generation of Australian artists
RE-GEN is a week-long creative development workshop for young and emerging artist to develop new Australian plays. Running in parallel with PlayWriting Australia’s National Script Workshop, this new initiative will support six emerging artists (two playwrights, two directors and two dramaturgs) through an intensive creative development process.
PlayWriting Australia received submissions from young and emerging artists from around the country who have graduated from relevant tertiary study in the past two years or who can demonstrate up to 5 years equivalent arts practice experience. Applications will be accepted from both individuals and teams of two or three artists.

UPDATES.... Your RE-GEN Questions Answered
Q: What counts as 'relevant tertiary study'?
A: This could be a recognised course of study in theatre, drama, performance, acting, directing, dramaturgy, playwriting, creative writing, English or similar. Not sure? Email us and check!
Q: Can I submit the same script that I put in for the National Play Festival or Kicking Down the Doors?
A: No, that script would be ineligible for RE-GEN. We're looking for new plays that have not yet been through our assessment processes already.
Q: If we're submitting for Re-GEN as a team, do all three creatives have to be young and emerging?
A: Yes! All the members of your team must be between 18 and 30 and in the first five years of arts practice.
Q: Should the director and dramaturg applying as a team submit a joint script assessment report of the test script?
A: We're leaving this one up to you. The director and dramaturg in a team can each submit their assessment, or one joint report. A note of caution, however, if you are jointly assessing, please ensure you cover both aspects of the script assessment (i.e. directorial and dramaturgical) because your joint report will be competing against applicants who are assessing from only one of those perspectives.
