making playwriting more accessible, available and visible

outreach and community development

To develop the best in new writing for the theatre we seek to partner with locally based organisations to encourage writers from all sections of society to tell their stories.

In partnership with theatre companies and their local communities, PlayWriting Australia can help provide access to the best theatre people and create a safe, creative learning environment. We are looking to work with targeted groups whether they be from non-English speaking backgrounds, young offenders or people not in education, employment or training.

international market development

PlayWriting Australia's Program Manager - International Market Development has the task of promoting Australian writing for performance to overseas markets, brokering links between Australians and their international counterparts and advocating for a greater representation of Australian work in international repertoire.

By developing opportunities for the presentation of Australian plays overseas, we seek to increase the viability and sustainability of Australian playwrights' practice.

In September 2011, Dan Prichard joined PWA as International Program Manager after spending 4 years as Director of Arts at the British Council in Singapore. Originally from the UK, and with a background in film and education, in Singapore Dan ran programs across artforms, with a particular emphasis on new writing, film, performance and community arts. In this role he built an extensive network of contacts in the UK performing arts scene and across Asia, upon which he will draw in his new position. Dan is also manager of the Fresh Ink program for atyp (www.freshinkaustralia.com) and lives in Sydney.
